Hand Washing

It’s in our Hands! Touch again Without Fear

According to the WHO, of every 100 hospitalized patients at any given time,7 in developed and 10 in developing countries will acquire at least one health care-associated infections (HCAIs). However, up-to 70 percent of these infections are preventable through good hand hygiene – cleaning hands at the right times and in the right ways.

But there’s bad news, too: The Centres for Disease Control (CDC) says that on average, healthcare providers clean their hands LESS THAN HALF THE TIMES THEY SHOULD.

In order to minimize the risk of infection and microorganisms getting transmitted, WHO has recommended 5 moments of hand hygiene.

  1. Cleaning hands before touching a patient
  2. Cleaning hands before a procedure
  3. Cleaning hands after a procedure or exposure to bodily fluids
  4. Cleaning hands after touching a patient directly
  5. Cleaning hands after touching a patient’s surroundings

However, according to a study, moments two and three involve a greater chance of contamination. These “riskier” moments were found to be the most missed hand hygiene opportunities because of the time constraints at the healthcare settings and also the lack of importance is given to hand hygiene.

Long-lasting and good hand hygiene

Fortunately, proper hand hygiene isn’t difficult. It’s just a matter of understanding basic best practices – and implementing those best practices every time. In order to maintain proper hand hygiene and also to reduce the risk of infection, Thanmatra Life has come up with a new long-lasting smart sanitizer. Herba Nuriel sanitizer gives 8-hour protection to the hands and keeps the germs and infections away. By using it once, any healthcare worker can forget about the 5 moments of hand hygiene and need not worry about contamination or sanitization for at least 8 hours. So, it’s in our hands to grab the opportunity and choose the right sanitizer, maintain good hand hygiene and prevent further infections.
